Home Township Home >
The land that would become Home Township was initially settled by Euro-Americans in 1857 by Matthew and William Tubbs, and Hyacinthe St. Couturier. Soon after, Ryan and Mary Schmitz and J. P. Schmitz also settled in the township. Little Euro-American settlement occurred in the Home Township until 1863 since the township was entirely located within the Dakota Reservation. After the U.S.-Dakota War, settlers returned to the township in 1864. The township organized on June 30, 1866 and the first town meeting was held at the Current brothers’ house.
