Stately Township Home >
Stately Township was the last of Brown County’s townships to organize. The first settler in Stately township was C. H. Crawford in 1873. Crawford was accompanied by Conrad Balbach, Joseph Chamberlain, W. H. Fox, John Tyson, and John Wilson. Stately Township organized in 1879 with some difficulties. After a failed petition in 1878, the county commissioners accepted a petition on January 9, 1879 for Stately to organize. After an initial illegal election, the township officers were finally elected on April 7, 1879.
